Developed on a vast, 2,212,348 m² former salt field, South Korea’s largest community-driven solar power plant is designed to produce roughly 430 GWh annually. It powers around 150,000 households and demonstrates the potential of regional collaboration in renewable energy development. Building on earlier successes in Yeongam and Imjado, it has further deepened the long-term trust between Sungrow and LS.

The plant’s island location, with no direct land access, required a fast-response service and a flexible design. AC-side customization added complexity, requiring installation flexibility and reliable performance, while also resisting salt corrosion.

To meet site demands, Sungrow deployed its Plug & Play 1+X modular inverter solution, enabling quick setup and simplified maintenance. A customized bi-directional AC busbar met local installation requirements, while the inverters’ IP65-rated enclosures protected them from salt corrosion. Together, these features helped the project become a reliable and sustainable model for island-based solar installations.

The project stands as an example of how technical challenges—from isolated locations to environmental risks—can be met with intelligent, scalable engineering solutions. It also demonstrates the potential of regional cooperation in developing renewable energy, showing a path for other islands and rural regions to achieve energy independence sustainably.
