This innovative project in Staffanstorp, Sweden, was designed to go beyond solving energy challenges and create a more sustainable facility overall. Combining solar power, battery storage, smart energy management, and advanced water recycling systems, the site demonstrates how environmental performance and operational efficiency can work hand in hand. The ambition was clear: to become Sweden’s greenest car wash while developing new solutions for the transport industry.

The facility handles a continuous flow of heavy vehicles throughout the day, creating significant power demand peaks that can place stress on the local energy infrastructure. At the same time, the customer wanted to reduce environmental impact through better resource management, increase the use of renewable energy, and create new revenue opportunities through participation in ancillary services markets. Achieving these goals required a tailored solution capable of balancing energy production, storage, consumption, and optimization.

Working closely with the customer, Sungrow and its partners developed a customized energy management solution that combines solar PV, battery storage, DC charging infrastructure, and an intelligent optimization platform. The system stores renewable energy, mitigates peak power demand, and enables participation in ancillary services markets through an in-house energy management system (IMS). Beyond energy optimization, the facility incorporates water recycling systems and stormwater management, achieving up to 90% water recirculation. Supported by Sungrow’s local Swedish team, the project has become a showcase for how integrated renewable energy and smart controls can drive both sustainability and business value.
