Project Background

Located in Rummu, Estonia, this project marks a significant milestone as the first hybrid solar and battery storage installation in Central and Eastern Europe. Combining a 9 MW photovoltaic system with an 18 MWh battery energy storage system, the site represents a forward-looking approach to renewable energy generation by integrating production and storage into a single, intelligent solution. Developed in close collaboration with Sungrow, the project demonstrates how hybrid systems can unlock new levels of flexibility, efficiency, and reliability while supporting the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

Project Challenge
As renewable energy penetration increases, grid operators and energy producers face growing challenges related to intermittency, price volatility, and grid stability. Traditional solar plants generate power only when the sun is shining, which limits their ability to respond to demand fluctuations and participate in dynamic energy markets. For this project, the goal was to move beyond conventional solar generation by creating a system capable of balancing supply and demand, stabilizing the grid, and unlocking additional revenue streams. At the same time, the solution needed to operate reliably at utility scale while ensuring long-term economic viability.
Project Solution
To address these requirements, the project integrates Sungrow’s advanced hybrid technology, combining high-performance PV inverters with a large-scale battery storage system. The installation includes 54 SG350HX string inverters and the PowerTitan 1.0 energy storage system, supported by ST2293UX power conversion systems and medium-voltage stations, delivering a total capacity exceeding 10 MW and over 20 MWh of storage. This hybrid configuration enables the plant to store excess solar energy generated during the day and release it during periods of peak demand. By doing so, the system not only maximizes the utilization of renewable energy but also enhances predictability and operational flexibility. The intelligent integration of solar and storage allows the plant to actively participate in energy markets while providing essential grid services.
