As the largest solar plant in Southeast Asia, this project represents a pivotal step for Thailand in its transition to a low-carbon society. However, it first had to overcome several significant challenges.
The solution’s photovoltaic (PV) system has an installed capacity of 48.91 MWp and utilizes 196 inverters. Complementing the solar array is a powerful energy storage system (ESS) comprised of nine individual units. In total, the ESS provides 45 MW of power and 136 MWh of capacity. Each ESS unit is a fully integrated solution containing one SC5000UD Power Conversion System (PCS), a 15,138 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, and a liquid cooling system. The units also include a fire protection system and other auxiliary equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Powering the Land of a Thousand Smiles Completed and connected to the grid on January 20, 2023, the 48.91 MWp solar plant in Sa Kaeo is paired with a 45 MW / 136 MWh energy storage system. The project aligns with Thailand’s national strategy and Power Development Plan (PDP 2018-2037), which sets a goal for renewable energy to supply 37% of the country's total power by 2037.
