Sungrow and ERS Energy Advance 1 GWh of Energy Storage Across Southeast Asia

MALAYSIA / PHILIPPINES, 15 September 2026 — Sungrow, a globally leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, and ERS Energy, a leading solar engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) company in Malaysia, reached a significant milestone in the strategic partnership, with energy storage projects nearly 1 GWh across Malaysia and the Philippines. The signing ceremony strengthens the collaboration between the two companies and underscores their joint commitment to advancing energy storage deployment across Southeast Asia.

Malaysia: Strengthening Grid Stability and Unlocking Greater Solar Integration

Located in Bahau, Malaysia, the 441 MWh four-hour MyBeST project, with ERS Energy serving as the EPCC contractor, forms part of Malaysia’s national large-scale battery energy storage initiative led by the Energy Commission of Malaysia, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).

As Malaysia continues to increase its renewable energy capacity, large-scale energy storage can play a critical role in balancing supply and demand. By storing electricity when supply is abundant and dispatching it when needed, BESS can provide greater flexibility for the grid and help accommodate a higher share of variable renewable generation. With a capacity of 441 MWh, the project will help strengthen grid stability, enable greater integration of solar power, and reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based peaking generation, supporting Malaysia’s transition toward a more flexible and resilient power system.

Philippines: Enabling Flexible Power Trading and Grid-Forming Support

In the Zambales, Sungrow and ERS Energy are collaborating on a 556 MWh, BESS project for ACEN, with ERS Energy acting as the EPCC contractor.

A key highlight of the project is its grid-forming capability, marking Sungrow another new grid-forming energy storage project in the Philippines. Unlike conventional grid-following systems, grid-forming technology can actively contribute to maintaining grid voltage and frequency, providing additional grid support as renewable energy penetration increases.

The project will participate in the country’s Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), enabling electricity to be stored and dispatched according to market conditions. This flexible operating model can help optimize the use of stored electricity while supporting a more responsive and reliable power system. WESM is the Philippines’ centralized electricity market, where electricity prices are determined by supply and demand.

Working Together to Advance Southeast Asia’s Energy Transition

From supporting grid flexibility and renewable energy integration in Malaysia to enabling flexible electricity market participation and grid-forming capabilities in the Philippines, the two projects demonstrate how energy storage can be tailored to different market needs while delivering value across the power system.

“The question for Southeast Asia is no longer whether we can generate more renewable energy, but whether our power systems are ready to support it,” said Michael Ruan, Southeast Asia Director of Sungrow . “That is where energy storage makes the difference. Together with ERS Energy, we are helping build the flexibility and resilience needed to unlock more renewable energy and deliver reliable power for communities and businesses across the region.”

"This milestone reflects the strength of execution when strategic vision meets strong partnership. As the EPCC contractor for both the MyBeST projects in Malaysia and the ACEN project in the Philippines, ERS Energy is proud to deliver the critical energy storage infrastructure our region needs to support its renewable energy ambitions. Working alongside Sungrow, we are not just building projects, we are laying the foundation for a more resilient and flexible power grid across Southeast Asia" said  Alex Lum, Executive  Director of  ERS Energy.

Looking ahead, Sungrow will continue to empower partners across Southeast Asia with advanced energy storage solutions to strengthen grids, enable greater renewable energy integration and build a more resilient energy future.
