RED Certification

The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) is an EU directive governing radio equipment. It ensures radio communication products sold in the EU meet health and safety standards. RED applies to all radio devices including cell phones, routers and wireless earbuds. Products shall comply with EMC and RF emission standards to limit interference and health hazards, and also meet the cybersecurity requirements set out in Article 3(3)(d), (e) and (f) of RED and the harmonised standard EN 18031. RED-compliant goods can be traded freely within the EEA. Certification testing verifies spectrum usage, EMI and hardware safety. Compliance helps companies avoid EU market bans and penalties for non-compliance.
