The Cunderdin Hybrid Project—with a capacity of 128 MWdc/100 MWac of solar and a 55 MW/220 MWh battery energy storage system—marks a major step forward in the nation's renewable energy integration. As Australia's largest operational DC-coupled solar-plus-storage project, it plays a vital role in delivering more stable, flexible clean energy to the grid.
Sungrow's deep experience in grid connection solutions across Australia played a key role in the successful delivery of the Cunderdin Hybrid Project. With globally recognized grid-integration capabilities, Sungrow's solution enables efficient and reliable integration into large-scale power systems. In this case, it supports dynamic grid response, voltage regulation, and frequency control—ensuring a smooth, stable interaction with the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).
Beyond technical expertise, Sungrow provided full-lifecycle project support—from feasibility studies and planning to construction coordination and grid-connection assistance during commissioning. This comprehensive approach, backed by extensive local service experience, helped navigate Australia’s stringent grid compliance requirements and contributed to the project's timely and successful execution.
The Cunderdin Project reflects the shared strategic vision between Sungrow and its client, GPG, to advance Australia's clean energy future. For GPG, it enhances their sustainable infrastructure portfolio in one of the world's most active renewable markets. For Sungrow, it reaffirms its role as a trusted technology partner capable of reliable project delivery. “We are proud to support GPG in delivering one of the most advanced solar-plus-storage projects in Australia,” said Joe Zhou, Country Director of Sungrow Australia. “This project reflects our long-term commitment to accelerating the global clean energy transition.”
After several months of commissioning, the project reached full commercial operation in March 2025 and is now delivering 100% of its output to the grid. As one of Australia's most advanced solar-plus-storage projects, it marks a meaningful step forward in the country's clean energy transition and underscores Sungrow's role as a trusted partner in delivering innovative, high-impact energy solutions.
