The Background

Spearmint Energy is a next-generation energy company that aims to drive the clean energy revolution through battery storage technology. In partnership with Sungrow, the company launched Revolution: a 150 MW, 2-hour battery energy storage system in West Texas. This project provides affordable, clean, and reliable energy for homes and businesses across the ERCOT region by shifting wind and solar energy to when it’s needed most.

The Challenges

True to its name, the Revolution project faced multiple hurdles from its inception, including extreme heat, harsh weather conditions, and significant safety concerns. Meeting these challenges required Sungrow to oversee every phase of the project—from design to grid connection—and deliver innovative solutions that combined advanced technology with industry best practices, resulting in an efficient and cost-effective deployment.

The Impacts

Revolution cemented Spearmint Energy's position as a leader in Texas's battery storage market. Soon after the project's COD, Spearmint announced a $92 million tax equity investment from Greenprint Capital Management. This marked one of the first applications of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for a standalone battery storage system following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. In addition, Spearmint highly praised the reliability and performance of Sungrow's products. Following an agreement signed in 2025, the two companies will deploy more than 1 GWh of energy storage using Sungrow's latest PowerTitan 2.0 across Texas.
