In May 2024, the Solar Juice warehouse in New South Wales, Australia, installed a solar power system to meet the electricity needs of both the warehouse and its adjacent office building. The system utilised four Sungrow SH25T parallel solutions, designed to optimise the use of solar energy. Excess electricity generated during the day is stored in batteries, ensuring a seamless and efficient energy supply during the late evening and early morning hours. This system caters to the uninterrupted energy demands of the warehouse, including lighting, computers, air conditioning, and electric vehicle chargers. As global demand for renewable energy rises, photovoltaic (PV) technology is gaining significant investment. The Challenges

While the Solar Juice warehouse has a spacious rooftop ideal for solar panels, the facility still relied on the grid for power during nighttime and poor weather conditions. This dependency was the primary challenge: ensuring a consistent, 24/7 clean energy supply. Furthermore, traditional containerized Energy Storage System (ESS) solutions were unsuitable due to their bulky size, large footprint, and inflexibility for future expansion. Addressing these issues was essential to achieve energy independence and adapt to the warehouse's evolving demands.

The Solution

The Sungrow system proved to be the perfect fit for the Solar Juice warehouse's confined indoor space. With the ability to parallel up to 24 units, the system can reach a maximum capacity of 600 kW and store up to 3,840 kWh of energy, catering to the specific needs of C&I enterprises.

The Impacts

Sungrow offers a game-changing alternative with its DC-coupled ESS, providing significant advantages over traditional AC-coupled setups. The DC-coupling design allows for more efficient energy transfer, reduced system complexity, and improved scalability. The retrofit is currently configured with a 25 kW on-grid system, paired with a 75 kW hybrid inverter and a 60 kWh battery. This setup is designed for seamless scalability, allowing for future upgrades to its PV, inverter, and battery capacity.
