Chepa Africa, founded and owned by Dumi Masango, is a vibrant clothing manufacturing company based in Fourways, Johannesburg, specializing in stylish, contemporary apparel featuring traditional African patterns. The business caters to both retail customers and corporate clients, offering unique, culturally inspired designs. However, frequent power outages have disrupted production, causing delays in order fulfillment and financial losses. To mitigate this, the company has relied on diesel generators, which bring high operational costs, noise pollution, and maintenance challenges. These issues strain profitability and operational efficiency, highlighting the need for a more reliable and cost-effective energy solution.
Disrupted production due to power outages has led to delays in existing orders, as well as an inability to process online orders. In addition, operational costs and equipment wear have increased. High diesel generator expenses, machine damage from abrupt shutdowns and restarts, and generator noise pollution all negatively affect efficiency and profitability.
To address these challenges, the solution consists of a 25 kW inverter paired with a 25.6 kWh battery system, providing reliable backup power, reducing dependence on diesel generators, and ensuring seamless production even during outages.
The solution provides uninterrupted operations and reduces equipment damage through seamless automatic switching, which eliminates restart-related wear and tear. It also offers smart energy monitoring, with real-time tracking via iSolarCloud—allowing our client to monitor energy consumption remotely and optimize usage. Additionally, solar PV powers daytime operations, significantly reducing grid dependence and cutting electricity costs by up to 80% compared to diesel or grid reliance. This positions Chepa Africa as a leader in clean energy adoption among local manufacturers, giving the company a competitive advantage and enhancing its brand reputation through early entry into sustainable business practices.
