Hybrid Solar Deployment: 6.5 MW PV+ESS Project in Sweden

Capacity:

6.5 MW DC PV 4.4 MWh DC BESS

Annual Output:

7 GWh

COD Time:

2025

The Background

In Halmstad, Sweden, Sungrow partnered with Powerworks and Solarwork to develop one of the country’s first hybrid solar parks. The project integrates a 6.5 MWDC PV system with a 4.4 MWhDC PowerTitan energy storage system. This pioneering setup reflects a growing demand for smarter, more adaptable renewable energy solutions capable of supporting local energy needs efficiently and sustainably.

The Challenges

Hybrid projects require complex integration of PV and storage systems. In Sweden’s Nordic climate, reliability is critical — especially under tight timelines and challenging environmental conditions. Managing high volumes of solar input while delivering seamless grid support also posed significant design and execution hurdles.

The Solution

Sungrow deployed 20 SG250HX string inverters for PV conversion, along with the PowerTitan 1.0 BESS and SC2000UD PCS units. The system is AC-coupled, enhancing modularity and resilience. Sungrow’s inverters featured multi-MPPT capabilities ideal for bifacial modules, while the PowerTitan’s liquid cooling ensured long-term efficiency and system stability. Fast commissioning and user-friendly designs were key to meeting the project’s tight deadlines.

The Impacts

This project sets a new standard for hybrid renewable energy in Sweden, showing what’s possible when smart technology meets committed partners. It provides reliable, efficient electricity right when it’s needed most — during peak daylight hours — and helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels. With 7 GWh of expected annual output, it’s a meaningful step toward energy independence and a cleaner grid in the Nordic region.

We chose Sungrows technology for both the PV inverters and the BESS system because they work well in the Nordic climate and market. PowerTitans 1C system and liquid cooling offer exactly the speed and stability we need.
Fredrik Lyckvind, CSO at Powerworks
We have built this solar park because we believe that society really needs solar energy. Solar cells are an efficient way to generate energy, just when you need it most, in the middle of the day, at low marginal cost.
Carl Kuylenstierna VD Sperlingsholms Gods, owner of the plant
This is one of Swedens first hybrid solar parks. We have installed approximately 12,000 solar panels, which will produce 7,000 MWh per year. In this solar park we have 20 SG250HX inverters. We have chosen this model because it can handle large amounts of energy and has a flexible installation.
